Another mixed media button for today. The background is a fibre/paper thing used a lot with journalling and card making - it is almost like cardboard. It can't be gathered or sewn around (it can be sewn through) - I needed to glue this to the mould. It is quite interesting to add texture though. Over this I have woven fine wool, stitched down with some cotton perle. It is nice to play with textures.

So, it seems we are approaching lock down again. I know the government states otherwise, but of course, it can't afford for us all to stay at home again. I get that. But the limit to 6 people is worrying.

hahaha! I'm sorry, I'm laughing away to myself as I write this. I made a Dalek button! 

This was not intentional. I was simply playing around with natural colours and thinking about buttons on a bag or something else handwoven where the shape would be noticed. I was enjoying the nice pane repeat that the weaving had created. It took ages to do actually! But, it wasn't until I photographed it from the side that I saw the dalek. Once seen, never unseen :) We can imagine the weapons and eye on the other side...

Why Dorset? I started with a high top.

Today's button made me think of a sheriff's badge - despite the fact that this has 6 points and is beaded! Perhaps it is simply that it reminds me of some of the beaded buttons in my collection - a few of which are said to be Navajo or Indian. Who knows if they are really. 

That's one of the issue of textile button collecting. Most of the time you really have no idea where they were made, and in many cases no idea when. 

Good job I only collect for the pretties..
