Day 165 : Foolish Design .
Today's button is felt applique with embroidery, on a fabric ground. Another doodle really, but starting out with the felt pieces to make the designs. Very relaxing, and again, something I can work in the hoop and keep my thumb rested. Which is a total laugh as we ended up putting together a bookcase (and another tomorrow), so it isn't getting that much of a rest.
Mark really likes this one and said I should do a kit with designs like this. Hmmm.
So the fabric is a cotton, and then standard craft felt. Threads, DMC stranded cotton. The mould, a No 4. I've also padded out the mould with two layers of felt when I've covered the button.
I was asked yesterday - I do most embroidered buttons with the fabric stretched in a hoop. I just prefer doing embroidery like this. I know some people embroider onto covered buttons when they have been covered. I've done that too, but for a doodle, I prefer the hoop method. Not least because it is less strain on the hand holding the work.
