Day 337 : Victoria

My idea was to try a modern version of a particular type of Victorian button. The originals are sometimes called "Gone With the Wind" buttons, and have a contrast fabric in a neat shape at the centre, that comes up through a contrast fabric surround. The parts were all pushed together with machines (no doubt a hand press by someone paid piece work) and they are really cleverly made. I'd love to see the machine at work. They seem rather rare over here in the UK, so I haven't yet got two that match so that I can destroy it to see the parts... 

However, I went off on a tangent, and decided the fluffy part looked rather interesting off-centre, and none of the originals had edge stitching!

Interesting how an idea wanders...

Day 336 : Snug

A cosy little button today! Another plushwork button, with the addition of beads. There are also beads around the edge that you can't see. I'm enjoying playing with plushwork - we are working on a little something for December - and have a few ideas that I hope will become quite couture looking.

I've received a fantastic snuggly hug in the post today - a patchwork quilt made by my Mom. It is perfect and will definitely keep away the chill. I'll pop a picture on Facebook later :)

Day 335 : Knot Toggle

I'm not even trying to find a fancy name - it is a toggle knot. I've done nothing extra to the basic knot, so it is what it is. Something to focus the mind in working. I see knots and weaving as very related in the whole "mindful" thing. I think it was mindful before it became trendy, and the overs and unders that you count out in your brain can really help to push every other thing out. If I am tired when I am weaving I can drift off actually. 

And why knots? Well, I've just uploaded a new video over on the YouTube channel - making a knot with our new tools. Not this knot though. Sorry about that. (But I have used the tool..)
