Day 253 : Constellation

Day 253 : Constellation - One Button a Day 2020 by Gina Barrett

Day 253 : Constellation

Another mixed media button for today. The background is a fibre/paper thing used a lot with journalling and card making - it is almost like cardboard. It can't be gathered or sewn around (it can be sewn through) - I needed to glue this to the mould. It is quite interesting to add texture though. Over this I have woven fine wool, stitched down with some cotton perle. It is nice to play with textures.

So, it seems we are approaching lock down again. I know the government states otherwise, but of course, it can't afford for us all to stay at home again. I get that. But the limit to 6 people is worrying.

Stay safe everyone.

Size : 25mm / 1" / 40L

  1. I'm going to look in the scrapbooking section of my box stores if I ever get out for non food shopping - I have tried to find those thin wood shapes used for group craftie projects and didn't think to look in scrapbook/card crafts. The biggest fire in the area - Azusa - is 35 miles north and a bit east and I suppose we could see evidence other than smoke if high enough at night to see the fire line. This one may be very tough because the threatened residential areas are old (for us) and tucked up against mountains that haven't burned in a 100 years. And we have had a long dought spell and the poor pine trees are suffering from bark beetle infestation (evil bugs get in the trees and eat their way along just under the bark layer so the tree can't eat or drink) which has been working its' way through western pine forests for the last 60 years, gathering speed as it spreads. Anyhow - we are a long way away and not too smoke affected and the weather is still only high 80'. Must say that the light has changed, filtering through a smoke layer gives it a reddish tone. Anyhow, we are ok. Will stay well and hydrated and think of you all often. I think our assorted governments really need to put on their big-boy pants and do what needs doing to protect people from themselves! Oh!!! the post just came - Luoghi e Volti del Punto Filza just arrived from Italy - lovely book about (mostly) sicilian smock darning. Just another amazing rabbit hole - and not cheap with postage! It has some truly astonishing cuffs and yokes - I am trying hard not to salivate too much! So I was attempting to not start something new --- HA HA HA! Stay well. Regards to M & T. C in C xxx

    1. I am glad to hear that you are still safe. I've had others not in danger post pictures of the red sky too. What an absolute shame if it does reach the older parts. And I agree, a really evil bug. It must be very frightening for those living near.
Oh, gosh, I love Italian needlecraft books - always such precise work in them. Lucky you - sounds a terrific rabbit-hole. I tried some Italian smocking many many years ago, but with the most minimal instruction (and in hindsight, it was probably just smocking! Let me know what you started ;)
Keep safe and well, and cool xxx
