Day 268 : Web

Day 268 : Web - One Button a Day 2020 by Gina Barrett

Day 268 : Web

Today's button is another mix up - a zwirnknopfe with  a needlework technique found on Victorian buttons. I must admit, this didn't quite turn out as I had hoped. I quite like it, but saw it differently in my head.

So, the printer fought and I lost - we ordered a new today. Had to give in. I'll use the old one for non vital things until it finally dies, but am annoyed that we have spent hours trying to find one we were happy with. Bring back the old days when you had a choice of maybe 10. And half of those were out of your price range anyway!

Ah well, onwards and upwards!

  1. Hooray for the new printer! And I understand the frustration of looking for a new one - thank goodness I have Don to hunt online for me because just thinking about it makes my eyes swirl and my head hurt.
Hey- I figured out paragraphs! And last night I actually sent a g-mail to a friend not communicated with since early this year!!!! I may get the hang of this stuff yet, as long as I have Don to clear up after "they" install some "improvement".
Really like these zwirnknopfe buttons even if they aren't what was in your head. I am just awesticken by some of Yoko's airy creations but I think yours are more solid and feel richer in look and texture. The sparkle on the wine-brown thread - rayon? Ad of course I love the persimmon-pumpkin colour. (funny, this laptop doesn't spell English like the old one from Harrods did!)
Hope the shower is back in full order and Almost-cat likes her shelter and that the weekend coming up has good weather and some real fun of some sort. Best regards to Mark, and Toby and you. Stay well. Charlotte in California xxx

    1. Oh thank you. I love Yoko's bottle tops - I really must give it a try but honestly don't think I could match them! It's just cotton perle No 12 - my go-to thread for ring buttons.
Well done on figuring out more of the computer stuff!
Shelter is having quite a few coats of outdoor varnish in an attempt to protect it from the English weather. Hopefully will be dry and not smelly by Sunday.

  2. Just had a thought as I was tacking some cutwork to a bit of interfacing - they don't and can't spin linen thread as fine as they used to do - but we can get Brillante D'Alsace 50 for lacemakers -ought to work for very tiny Dorsets - but I think we would be crazy to try? Maybe I'd better not think for a while. C in C xxx

    1. Not crazy at all - do try!
I have some lace threads from Spain and they are lovely for teeny buttons. But of course, take ages.
I hope that you and Don have a lovely weekend xxx
