Day 209 : Jinnie

Day 209 : Jinnie

I guess today's button would technically qualify as a doodle button, as I started with a long turks head and added stitching. The stitching, from the side, makes the covering look a bit like the the bottle from "I Dream of Jeanie" hence the name! Jinn is the proper way to spell/say genie as I understand. Goodness knows where my brain goes sometimes...

Rather late posting today - typical Monday I'm afraid!

Day 208 : Princess

Day 208 : Princess - One Button a Day 2020 by Gina Barrett

Day 208 : Princess

Today's button is a variation on my "Kelly" button from my Fabric Buttons Book. In fact, I've even used the same fabric for the outer ring. The centre was made as in the book, and then I have stitched a little beaded roundel (made separately) to the centre. The centre has quite a cushion, so stands a little proud, and of course that isn't obvious in this image. You could just as easily stitch the beads into place right onto the centre.

The first button was named Kelly as it was inspired by 1950s buttons - and so named for Grace Kelly. This has a bit of bling, perfect for the later princess.

207 : Charlie

Day 201 : Charlie - One Button a Day 2020 by Gina Barrett

Day 207 : Charlie

A chevron knot button today - I've been experimenting with different threads, and the colours I ended up using here just reminded me of Charlie Brown. haha.

To tie a turks head, you should use a thread with a fair bit of body, to hold the structure. The buttons of the past however, are usually fine silks or metallics. Of course, the metallics are great, but the silks - such a pain. So I'm experimenting with ways that just might make things easier.

Knot tying is actually relaxing, once you know how. Until that point is is damn frustrating! I've also been writing and photographing some weaving instructions today and half way through though "if someone told me to weave like this I would throw the loom across the floor!" so, suffice to say I have started over.

And how's your day been :)
