Day 355 : Christmas Trees

Day 355 : Christmas Trees - One Button a Day 2020 by Gina Barrett

Day 355 : Christmas Trees

Hmmm. The idea was quite good - but this did not go well. The texture of the foil didn't work, the knots for lights too big, the tree stems hard to see - but I like the idea. Might have to try a version in finer threads to see if I can make it work better.

I could have started again and been a bit late posting tonight. But I thought that it might be a good opportunity to talk about the not-so-good creations. It doesn't always work, that's the way it goes. Sometimes you learn that it will never work (so it is probably best to cut off the threads and reuse the mould 😉 ) and sometimes you can treat it as a 'sketch'. Something to inspire you to create again, better, and learning from what didn't work.

Onwards to Monday!

  1. You are a braver woman than I am - Spit bath and a good brushing would have seen me to the studio.
Glad you are sharing the less than stellar pieces - so many people don't realize that things have to be picked apart and redone over and over again to get that really good button or picture or whatever. I figure a 100 hour piece of needlework is going to have at least 40 hours of restitching because I don't get it right the first time (or the fourth!). Most of the people I know are process oriented so the greatest pleasure is in the doing.
Gadfry Daniels, my toes are cold this evening! I think I am going to have to locate the heating pad and thaw them out before I can sleep. And there is that fiendish draft! Ick!
We will enjoy seeing the next iteration of this button so don't set the idea too far aside. Thank you.
Hope the week is off to a good start. Hugs all around, and stay warm and dry and masked up - Don says he saw a story about a COVID 19 variant that has just surfaced in the UK :(. Charlotte xxx

    1. Yes, a new strain that spreads far more quickly, though apparently the reaction to it isn't any different. It has apparently been seen in a few other countries, but it is the UK scientists who have followed it and sequenced it, so an announcement was made and info shared with WHO. Many parts of the country have been put into full lockdown again, and most countries have stopped all travel from the UK. The French have also closed the borders to goods, which caused some disruption. Loads of people are saying they are still going to do as they like over Christmas (we had a relaxation for 5 days, where up to 3 families could meet indoors) which, in the highest problem areas, has been cancelled, and to the lowest, only a day. It is quite a worry - let's hope it doesn't mutate against the vaccines...

Yes, I've still got it in my head, I think this has the potential to be quite a lovely design, so I will do it!

Please stay safe and well, both of you xxx
