Day 142 - Juncture

One Button a Day 2020 by Gina Barrett - Day 142 : Juncture

Day 142 : Juncture

Today's button is a little different! I just felt like playing around with other materials - I actually have a whole list of ideas using textiles with other items, I just haven't had a chance to play. This one uses a No 3 mould, which I have painted with paint pens in white and silver. I've then worked some wrapping with cotton perle No 12, and some real silver thread.

It makes me think of the 80s...

Size: 25mm / just under 1" /just under 40L

  1. Oh I like this! What paint pens do you use? I'm a bit scared of real silver thread/beads because tarnish... I have a few pieces that are just white and black now instead of white and silver, and I don't know the best way to treat them. This is lovely.

    1. I used Posca pens. Yes, real silver is a real pain - silver spangles especially as they have such a high silver content. I understand that a lot of tarnishing has to do with pollution, but I don't know if that is just hearsay. This will end up tarnished eventually, but modern metallics just don't have the characteristics that the real metal has.
