Day 79 : Column

One Button a Day 2020 by Gina Barrett - Day 79: Column

Day 79: Column

I am really quite pleased with this button - it is not what I had intended! This is needlework again, a combination of long and ordinary cross stitches, with some colonial knots in the gap that kept forming on one side. I am not sure why I decided to roll it, but I do like the way the texture of the stitches looks when rolled.

Materials, the pink is a perle cotton no 12, and the purple is Au ver a Soie "Soie d'Alger" silk. I have decided it is high time I used some of my fancier threads. I do have a habit of saving lovely threads for "that" project - problem is, I have no idea what they project is! So why not this project?

This is stuffed with more fabric rolled up. I could have used a toggle bead, but the fabric works just fine.

Size (length x width)
37 x 11mm / just under 1 1⁄2" x 7⁄8" / 51L (long)
I am fairly certain there is only ever 1 measurement in lignes...

Day 78 : Pillow

Day 78: Pillow

I am so sorry that today's button has been posted so late! I had fully intended to schedule this post so that it would go live as I was doing the live Hochanda shows, but prep time ran away with me last night.

Today's button is a soft button, made from a length of tape woven on our tape loom . The tape loom was the feature of this morning's show, so there was a method in my madness last night. The mixed colours in the weave are because I painted the warp before weaving, trying something a little different that still needs perfecting. The green is decorative stitching to cover the seam.

No solid mould - instead, this is stuffed with cotton.

Size (across the straight edge): 20mm / 3⁄4" / 31L

Day 77 : Trifolium

Day 77 : Trifolium

A little bit of a different take for St Patrick's Day Today

Whatever the next few weeks hold, may you all be in clover.

I'm busy prepping for my shows on Hochanda tomorrow - a very early start, have to be at the studio for 6am, so we'll be leaving home at about 5. Haven't quite figured how early I will get up, depends on how much I get sorted today I suppose!

This is needlepoint again, the top is a No 2 mould, while the bottom is a No 105, covered with cotton fabric.

Size: 31mm / 1 3⁄16" / 48L
